Winner of the Lazar Trifunović Award is Simona Ognjanović

The 2019 Lazar Trifunović Award was presented to the art historian and curator Simona Ognjanović for her academic text on the occasion of the exhibition “The Nineties: Dictionary of Migration” at the Museum “May 25.”

Simona Ognjanović received the Lazar Trifunović Award for Fine Art Criticism and Theoretical Consideration of Contemporary Visual Art for the study text “Migration Dictionary: One Possible Interpretation of the 1990s,” published in the catalogue of the recently opened exhibition The Nineties: Dictionary of Migration, which she co-curated with Ana Panić. The exhibition, running until the end of February at the Museum “25 May,” presents more than 30 artists and activist collectives, mapping various forms of engagement from the 1990s to the present and addressing the various social, cultural, political and legal problems created by the complex and traumatic migration processes in and out of Serbia.

The jury for the Lazar Trifunović Award for Fine Art Criticism and Theoretical Consideration of Contemporary Visual Art consisted of Professor at the Art History Group of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade Jasmina Čubrilo, PhD; Advisor at the National Museum in Belgrade Dragana Kovačić, PhD; and Professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade Nikola Dedić, PhD. After considering the 19 proposals received from institutions and colleagues, the jury unanimously decided to confer the award on Simona Ognjanović.

The 2019 Lazar Trifunović Award was officially presented at the Belgrade Cultural Center on January 14, on the anniversary of the birth of Lazar Trifunović, influential Serbian art historian and critic, at one time the youngest director of the National Museum, a prolific publicist, and charismatic professor of 20th-century art history at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade.

The Lazar Trifunović Award consists of a plaque bearing the image of Professor Trifunović, a sum of money, and an exhibition that the laureate organizes as part of the “Critics Have Chosen” series at the KCB Art Gallery in Belgrade
