The ICOM Slovenia 2019 Award goes to Southern Constellations: The Poetics of the Non-Aligned

Th annual award for the promotion of this year’s ICOM theme (Museums as cultural centers – the future of tradition) went to the Southern Constellations: The Poetics of the Non-Aligned exhibition curated by Bojana Piškur and staged at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova between 7 March and 10 September 2019.

In an awards ceremony at the Museum of Recent History in Ljubljana on Thursday, 12 December 2019, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Zoran Poznič, MA, presented the ICOM Slovenia Award for the best international project by a Slovene museum or gallery in 2019. The award for the promotion of the annually chosen ICOM theme (Museums as cultural centers – the future of tradition) went to the Southern Constellations: The Poetics of the Non-Aligned exhibition curated by Bojana Piškur and staged at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova between 7 March and 10 September 2019.

 

The award is aimed at individuals, groups or organizations that produce exhibitions, projects and events related to the International Day of Museums, which encourages creative reflection on the chosen theme in ways that reflect the current state of engagement of museum institutions globally. The jury selected for the award Southern Constellations: The Poetics of the Non-Aligned, an exhibition that was the result of several years of research, thanks to the project’s internationally oriented concept involving the collaboration of Moderna galerija with art museums from Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Chile, Japan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong.
