Transcending Fantasy

Transcending Fantasy is a curated screening by Rosa Wiesauer and explores subversive, artistic and joyful approach­es to dealing with gender and identity construction in Japanese (pop) culture through video art. Queer identities are present in a lot of Japanese pop-cul­tural contexts like anime and manga, music, tv-shows and movies. Although celebrated in the media, LGBTQIA* identities are rarely to be seen in everyday life. Through artistic ways, the featured works by artists Mai Endo, Yuriko Sasaoka, Emma Chipperfield, Fuyuhiko Takata and Rosa Wiesauer, challenge the given circum­stances.
