Step with Refugees

Step with Refugees

Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA), Middlesbrough, UK

Thursday, 20 June 2019, 2 p.m.

In solidarity with refugees who have been forced to leave their homes and make extraordinary efforts to survive, MIMA and its constituents walked together in Middlesbrough’s civic plaza Centre Square. The UN Refugee Agency aimed to walk 2 billion kilometres in 12 months to honour the journeys that refugees worldwide do each year to reach the nearest point of safety and we contributed a grand total of 20km to honour the journeys that refugees make each year to reach safety.

Arabic Journey

Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljubljana, Slovenia in collaboration with Ljubljana Urban Tours

Saturday, 15 June 2019, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Companions: Heba Kanoun (Syria), Aber Algendy (Syria), Wasim Alkhatib (Palestine/ Jordan)

The journey starts at Ljubljana City Market, a perfect place to unveil the social and symbolic meaning of the market in Arab world and compare it to Ljubljana context, discovering how migrants from Arab countries use the produce on the stands. As well as what food they lack and long for. Crossing the Dragon bridge we get to feel Trubarjeva, the most eclectic and multicultural road in the city, with all our senses. We follow the traces of Non-aligned movement, uncover refugee employment opportunities and finish our journey with the stories from Kotnikova Asylum Home.

In Ljubljana We Are All Migrants

Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljubljana, Slovenia in collaboration with Ljubljana Urban Tours

Thursday, 20 June 2019 (from 6 pm - 9 pm)

A Sensory Journey Companion: Camilo Acosta Mendoza (Colombia)

On a 2,5 km walk from the Hologram of Europe to Ljubljana’s Central Market, we will pass through Trubarjeva road and other surprises. We will undertake a sensory journey not only through times and spaces but also through stories, tastes, colors, forms and sounds, realising that from the beginning of times we are in constant migration. Using creative performative techniques we will slow down the pace of the city and explore the metamorphosis through time, feeling the evolution from swamp to modern European capital. We might end up in the past or future - as is the case with Alice in the Wonderland, travel with Camilo is always unpredictably exciting!

Animal Worlds

Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Saturday, 22 June 2019, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Creative Workshop for families (for mothers & children between 5-12 years old)

At the workshop, we will create animals in various techniques (by drawing and shaping paper dolls). For the youngest, we will prepare stamps of various basic shapes so that the images of animals can be colored and printed on paper. We will create a big wallpaper, where all our animals will be inhabited. Older children will be able to animate animals in the stop motion technique and create their own animal adventure story.
